Getting Started

Welcome to ExploreHealthCareers.org, an award-winning, totally free website offering comprehensive, up-to-date information on how to prepare and pay for pursuing a career in the health professions.

Did you know that, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 4 out of the 6 fastest-growing occupations are in the health field? There's never been a better time to pursue a career in health.

This is because "the aging of America" is causing a significant decrease in the health workforce, as more and more people are retiring. At the same time, the number of patients needing care for age-related health problems is growing. What does that mean? Almost every health profession is now, or soon will be, in serious need of workers. With a degree in the health field, you are virtually guaranteed to have a job offer when you get out of school -- and maybe many!

As you imagine your ideal health career and start to explore your options, it will help to keep a few things in mind.

  • Is a Health Career Right For You? Before choosing a career in health, you may want to ask yourself some important questions.
  • How To Pay For School Our funding database includes information on grants, loans, and scholarships for students who plan to pursue a graduate degree in the health professions. Please note that each funding program has its own eligibility requirements and deadlines; we encourage you to contact the sponsoring organization directly. Meanwhile, here are some things to keep in mind, no matter where you apply.
  • Achievement Tips We've asked leaders in the health field to share their thoughts about how to succeed in your health career education. Read their Achievement Tips below. Note: For more in-depth help with study skills, we recommend that you seek out your Academic Support Center (or whatever they call this department at your school), where a professional advisor in health education can help you one-on-one.
