These awards are presented to NAHN members enrolled in associate, diploma, baccalaureate, graduate or practical/vocational nursing programs. Selection of recipients is based on current academic standing. Scholarship award recipients are a select group of Hispanic students who demonstrate promise of future professional contributions to the nursing profession and who have the potential to act as role models for other aspiring nursing students. To qualify for the scholarship award, the applicant must be currently enrolled in a school of nursing and be a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States. The number of scholarships offered depends on funding availability. Criteria for the Scholarship Awards include: 

  • A typed one-page essay by the student that reflects the qualifications and potential for leadership in nursing in the Hispanic community.
  • Two letters of support from faculty members outlining the applicant’s future professional contribution to the nursing profession and potential to act as a role model for other aspiring nursing students.
  • Academic excellence (minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred).
  • A current nursing program transcript.
  • National Scholarship application form completed and submitted by deadline date.
  • Verification of membership status in NAHN.

The National Association of Hispanic Nurses' National Scholarships, which are for one academic year, will be awarded to outstanding Hispanic nursing students enrolled in a nursing program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of current academic standing and financial need. The recipients for the scholarship awards are Hispanic nurses who demonstrate potential for professional contributions to nursing and through their actions will serve as positive role models to Hispanic nursing students.

To qualify for the scholarship award, the applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing, and be a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States. Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.

Applications available for 06-07 in January of 2006 and due in mid April.

Other restrictions: U.S. citizenship required.
