The Program was designed by Iowa Student Loan to provide recruitment and retention incentives to nursing educators and registered nurses (RN) in order to reduce the shortage of RNs in Iowa communities by forgiving all, or portions of, certain education loans. Iowa Student Loan is a private, non-profit Iowa corporation that makes, purchases and services education loans to Iowa students and parents. Applicants MUST be students during the award year covered by this application. If you have already graduated, and are no longer a student, you are not eligible to apply for or receive this forgivable loan award.

This Nursing Education Loan Forgiveness program is an Iowa-specific initiative funded by Iowa Student Loan (ISL) and administered through the Iowa College Student Aid Commission. Its purpose is to reward new nurses and nursing educators and retain licensed registered nurses in Iowa by repaying all or a portion of their qualified student loans.  The amount forgiven depends on your intended area of employment. Students eligible to receive these benefits will be those Registered Nurses who graduate from a nursing program at an accredited Iowa university, college, or school of nursing; or Nurse Educators who graduate from a post-baccalaureate nursing educator program (including non-nursing doctoral programs that qualify the individual to teach nursing) at an Iowa institution. 

Other restrictions: Students who are enrolled in registered nursing programs or post-baccalaureate nursing educator programs at an accredited Iowa college or university can apply. Nursing educators who are enrolled in non-nursing doctoral programs that qualify them to teach nursing are also eligible to apply.
